Shakib likely to feature in Big Bash
On 4 December last year, the ban on Shakib al Hasan regarding participating in foreign leagues was lifted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). That decision opened the door for him to participate in Australia’s Big Bash League.
Shakib, though was initially worried about whether he would get a team or not, as the start of the tournament is just a couple of days away. He played in the Adelaide Strikers last time, and regarding this time, he said, “I am participating in the league. Team is almost confirmed, and now we are going through some paperwork. Insha Allah you will hear something positive within one or two days. I don’t want to inform anyone without confirming the team first.”
The ICC Cricket world Cup 2015 is going to start on 14 February in Australia and New Zealand, and Shakib’s participation in the Big Bash would undoubtedly be a big boost for Bangladesh. Initially the team was supposed to play four practice games before the world Cup, and Shakib’s experience of playing in Australia would definitely add value to the team.
Shakib said, “Our team will go there two weeks before. If I can go 3-4 weeks before my team then I can obviously adjust to the conditions better and help my teammates. The World Cup is an important tournament for us and participating in the Big Bash will help me prepare well”.
Regarding the pitches, Shakib had a slightly different view, “ICC will prepare the pitches for the World Cup and not the hosts. Thus they cannot completely take the home advantage. The pitches will be sporting where both runs and wickets will be there. That is what makes cricket interesting, so ICC would want to prepare sporting wickets.”
It was aired in a few TV channels that Shakib is playing for the Adelaide Strikers. However, nothing has been confirmed yet by the player himself or the team.
