Shakib Al Hasan's team Walton Centre zone has reached the final of the ODI edition of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) Independence Cup with two wins in a row. However, doubts have been raised about Shakib's participation in the final.
Tiger, who was on leave from the New Zealand tour for personal reasons, returned home earlier this month. Back in the country, he joined the BCL after concluding an agreement with a mobile phone manufacturer. Now, leaving the ongoing BCL ODI tournament in Sylhet unfinished, Shakib left the team today.
Shakib is returning to Dhaka after the team's second match in the Independence Cup. He is scheduled to attend a function in Dhaka on January 14. Central Zone will play another match against BCB Southern Zone before the final. There is uncertainty about Shakib's participation in that match too.
"Shakib's chances of playing in the rest of the tournament are fifty-fifty," Walton Central team management told Bdcrictume.
The all-rounder came out with a luggage as he was leaving for the field to play the match in the morning. The distance from Sylhet International Cricket Stadium to Sylhet International Airport is not very long. At the end of the match, Shakib took the path to the airport directly from the field.
Walton Central Zone is the only team to have secured the final of this year's event. Earlier, the team also won this year's edition of the long version. In the first match of the Independence Cup, Shakib scored 35 runs with the bat and took two wickets in tight bowling. In the second match, he took one wicket at the cost of 49 runs and scored 33 runs with the bat.
