Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be allowed to play in the national team unless he cancels his contract with betting website news portal Betwinner News. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken the decision to stick to the zero-tolerance policy on gambling or betting. Ahead of the Asia Cup, the uncertainty over Shakib has deepened.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon told to the media on Thursday (August 11), “There is no second choice. BCB's position is still the same as it was from the beginning. I said earlier that zero tolerance will be maintained in this regard, BCB will not accept these. There is no chance of association with these. For which we have to exclude players like Ashraful.”
If Shakib does not cancel the contract, he will not be allowed to play for the Bangladesh team, even the captaincy of the Test team will be taken away - this is what the BCB president said.
Papon added, “We have sent him a letter. The letter should be answered by today. It was supposed to be received by yesterday. I heard it will be given today. We will wait till today and decide whether to he’ll be included in the team or not.”
It is known that Shakib signed a contract with the online portal for a huge amount of money, so now he is reluctant to cancel the contract. But Papon clarified, “It is not possible to have any involvement. Shakib must come out of it completely. Otherwise, he will not be in the team, and the T20 captaincy comes after that. This decision is already taken.”
