Shakib’s Khulna spent the highest in T20 Cup draft
The squads of five teams for Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020 have been finalised after the players’ draft took place at Le Meridien hotel in Dhaka.
Gemcon Khulna made the most expensive buys in the draft. They began the day with massive buys of Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad from grade A (BDT 1500000). In total, Khulna spent 1 crore 14 lakh takas ($134000 approx.) on 16 players.
Gazi Group Chattogram and Fortune Barishal committed the joint-second highest expenditure – BDT 11300000 ($133000 approx.). Chattogram bought cutter master Mustafizur Rahman from grade A. Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Taijul Islam and Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque are high profile grade B (BDT 1000000) buys.
Barishal too had strong grade B buys alongside A grader Tamim Iqbal, who will lead the side. Eyes will be on Taskin Ahmed, Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan Miraz from group B.
Minister Group Rajshahi, who did not opt to buy any cricketer group grade A, spent the least in the draft – BDT 10200000 ($120000 approx.). However, the most significant buy for Rajshahi has been Mohammad Ashraful from grade D (BDT 4 lakh takas).
Interestingly, Beximco Dhaka spent only BDT 10300000 ($121000 approx.) as they focused on young cricketers more than any other team. Apart from Mushfiqur Rahim (A), Rubel Hossain, Naim Sheikh and Nayeem Hasan (B), all have been grade C and D buys.
U19 World Cup winners Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Akbar Ali and Shahadat Hossain Dipu – all grade D- will play for Dhaka. Sabbir Rahman is a notable pick from grade C (BDT 6 lakh takas).
