Shami can become king of reverse swing- fast bowling great Shoaib Akhtar

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar thinks that Indian pacer Mohammed Shami can be the king of reverse swing if he continues his recent form in future. Shoaib also revealed that Shami contacted him after the World Cup for the advice on pace bowling.


“After India’s (50-over) World Cup frustration, Shami called me one day and said he was feeling sad that he couldn’t do well for India. I let him know not to lose heart however look after fitness. The home series is coming and you will do well I said.

“I disclosed to Shami that I want him to become a tearaway pacer, going through batting line-ups. He has seam and swing, other than that he has the reverse swing which not many bowlers in the subcontinent have. I told him you can become king of reverse swing,” said Akhtar.

India’s one of the best pacer in recent time Mohammed Shami showed his swinging worth in the fourth innings again against South Africa in the first test at Visakhapatnam as he took his fourth 5-wicket haul in the fourth innings of a test match.

In the last two years, Shami’s average in the fourth innings is 19.32 and noticeably his average in first innings is 34.55 which clearly proved his dominance in the fourth innings. Even his fourth innings average is better than his overall average 28.45.

“Presently, you see what he has done, he has got wickets from a mild pitch (in Visakhapatnam). I am very happy for him,” said the ‘Rawalpindi Express’.

He also shared his frustration about the Pakistani bowlers. “Sadly, our Pakistani fast bowlers don’t ask me how they can improve their bowling however the Indian bowlers like Shami are doing that. It is a pitiful situation as far as my country is a concern,” the  fastest bowler in the history of cricket Shoaib Akhtar said.
