Shastri gets 20% hike in salary, Twitter roasts him

Under the tutelage of Ravi Shastri, India failed miserably in major ICC tournaments and had India won the 2019 World Cup, no one would have questioned him and his staff. They surrendered at the hands of New Zealand when they failed to chase a target of 240 and eventually lost by 18 runs.

Following the World Cup exit, almost every Indian cricket fan wanted Ravi Shastri to step down. However, he was reappointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s team by Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC).

The Cricket Advisory Committee believes that giving Ravi Shastri a second chance is extremely important. Moreover, Ravi Shastri’s “communication skills and understanding of team issues” set him a class apart from most other candidates. Ravi Shastri who was offered a contract of two plus years will get a good hike on his payment.

According to Mumbai Mirror, CTC of the head coach will have a 20% hike in his salary, meaning his annual package will be somewhere between Rs 9.5 crore and Rs 10 crore respectively. In his last contract, he had been drawing about Rs 8 crore annually.

The support staff- Bharat Arun and R Sridhar are also expected to get a potential increase in their salaries after which they will be receiving around Rs 3.5 crore.

Team India’s new batting coach, Vikram Rathour who came in place of Sanjay Bangar is likely to receive salary of around Rs 2.5 crore to Rs 3 crore.

“The reason why I came in here is the belief I had in this team, the belief that they could leave a legacy which very few teams have left behind which other teams going down will try and emulate,” Shastri had told regarding his ambitions with the team.

“Next two years is to see the smooth transition happening. You will get a lot of youngsters coming — in both white-ball setup and Tests. You need to identify another three-four bowlers to add to the pool by the end of our tenure.

My endeavour by the end of this tenure would be to leave the team in a happier space so that they can set a legacy in the time to come,” he had added.
