He has often been in headlines more than any other Pakistani cricketer these days. Former Pakistani fast bowler has been spending most of his time in expressing his opinions on his YouTube channel. Now, he is planning to move to the next level in his career.

Rawalpindi Express is now in advanced talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board to become the new national chief selector. Though nothing has been finalised yet, talks are still going on between Akhtar and PCB. If such a move happens, then Misbah-ul-Haq will be stepping down from the role.

Shoaib Akhtar expresses interest to play a part in PCB

Misbah was recruited as national chief selector back in September 2019 in the wake of Pakistan’s woeful performance in the 2019 World Cup. The Green Shirts failed to make it to the semis and since then new development took place in PCB. As per the reports, Shoaib Akhtar is believed to be the top contender to replace Misbah-ul-Haq.

Apart from being the selector, Misbah also served as Pakistan cricket’s head coach after he replaced South Africa’s Mickey Arthur, who is currently with Sri Lanka. Recently, Shoaib Akhtar expressed his interest to play a substantial role in Pakistan cricket.

“I will not deny it. Yes, I have had some discussions with the board and I am interested in playing a major role in Pakistan cricket. But nothing is decided as yet,” Akhtar was quoted as saying on YouTube show Cricket Baaz.

According to the recently-updated Pakistan Cricket Board guidelines, if Shoaib Akhtar joins Pakistan’s administrative forum, he might have to quit YouTube channel. In terms of the chief selector’s role, Shoaib Akhtar said that apart from some discussions related to national chief selector’s role, no development about the same took place at the moment.

“I live a very comfortable life, I played cricket on my terms and now I have settled down. But I am ready to leave this comfort and try to put my neck on the line for the PCB. I am not afraid others give advice. I will give time if the opportunity arises. Yes, there has been some discussions. I can reveal only this much but nothing concrete as yet. But talks are still on. I have not said yes neither have they (PCB) said yes,” he added.
