In the first match of the two-match Test series, Sri Lanka defeated the West Indies by 187 runs to take the lead in the series. The Caribbean batsmen were stunned by the Sri Lankan spin attack.
The final day started of with Nkumrah Bonner and Joshua Da Silva coming in to save the test match for West Indies. The Caribbeans lost 6 wicket within the space of 18 runs in the previous day, and it was these two who dug deep in order to prevent more fall of wickets.
The pair continued to work towards a miracle, and tried to bob and weave through the spinners. The duo put on a 100 runs partnership. However, Lasith Embuldeniya finally got the breakthrough for Sri Lanka, as he got Da Silva to edge towards first slip for 54.
After the resistance was finally broken, the rest of the West Indies batters could not give the support Bonner required to save this Test match for a draw. They were all out for 160, resulting in a enormous victory for the Lions hailing from Sri Lanka.
