Soumya’s marriage ceremony marred by unexpected incident
Bangladesh star all-rounder Soumya Sarkar started a new innings of his life as he tied the knot with Puja Debnath yesterday (February 26) midnight. However he had to endure some embarrasing situation even on the most significant day of his life.
The marriage ceremony took place at the Khulna Club in Khulna with all the rituals. But the happy occasion was disrupted by a scuffle over stealing of seven mobile handsets of the bridegroom’s party.
According to BDCricTime’s Khulna correspondent, as many as seven mobile phones, including one that belongs to Soumya’s father, were stolen in Khulna Club. When the thieves were caught red handed, a big brawl started with the suspects attacking on Soumya’s family.
The cricketer’s family, however, barred the present journalists from capturing the incident. Eventually the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. The stolen mobile phones were found back, and the remainder of the ceremony ended nicely.
Soumya’s wife Puja is now 19 years old. She is the daughter of Gopal Debnath hailing from Tutpara in Khulna, who completed her ‘O’ level examination this year from an English medium school in the capital.
Soumya, the southpaw from Satkhira, has so far played 15 Tests, 55 ODIs and 48 T20Is for Bangladesh after making his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2014.
After already skipping the lone Test against Zimbabwe, Soumya is not in the Bangladesh squad of first two ODI matches as he has taken a break from national duty.
