Sri Lanka announce squad for World Cup

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced their 15-man squad on Thursday for the upcoming World Cup in England.

Sri Lanka becomes the sixth team to announce their 15-man World Cup squad after Australia, England, Bangladesh, India and England.

It came into everyone’s surprise that Dimuth Karunaratne, who hasn’t played an ODI since the 2015 World Cup is set to lead the team in the upcoming World Cup while Lasith Malinga has been included in the squad despite rumours flying that he might retire before the tournament.

Wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Chandimal fails to make it to the squad while Kusal Mendis has been preferred over him. All-rounder Angelo Mathews has also made his way back into the squad after recovering from injuries.

SQUAD: Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga, Kusal Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis (wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Jeffrey Vandersay, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Jeevan Mendis, Milinda Siriwardana.
