Steyn to play first six games in BBL

South Africa’s speedster Dale Steyn is set to feature in the first six games of the Big Bash League (BBL) for Melbourne Stars.

Styen to play in BBL
Just a week after former South Africa captain AB de Villiers announced his arrival in Big Bash League (BBL), fast bowler Dale Steyn announced on Tuesday that he will play for Melbourne Stars in the upcoming season.

Steyn will play the first six games of the season and it can be extended if South Africa doesn’t pick him in their upcoming T20I series. His former team-mate AB de Villiers will play for Brisbane Heat.

The fast bowler, who recently retired from Test cricket informed that his extention in the BBL depends on South Africa’s selection.

“Obviously the first prize is always to play for your country. Representing South Africa is the only thing I’ve ever done for my whole career so far … so to get back into that team is prize number one. But if that doesn’t happen, I still want to be playing cricket. I don’t want to be sitting in South Africa not doing anything.”

“So if there’s a window and a chance that I could go back over and play for the Stars, that can be open to discussion. It certainly can happen. But we’ve got to wait for the Proteas selection decision, and we can take it from there,” he concluded.

Steyn hasn’t played international cricket in any format since March. He was not picked up for the T20I series against India stating that he isn’t fit enough yet.
