Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in the history of the Indian Premier League. They have won four IPL titles, more than any other team in the tournament. Moreover, they are an experienced team as well. They have also been in several finals and know exactly what needs to be done to win titles.

In the previous edition of the IPL, Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings by 1 run to become the most successful team. Rohit Sharma has been an incredible captain for Mumbai. His leadership skills have never been in doubt. He played a big part in turning Mumbai Indians as potential title contenders.

The defending champions are currently at the United Arab Emirates preparing for the upcoming edition of the IPL. They begin their IPL campaign against the three-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav are openers in Gavaskar’s MI playing XI

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar strongly reckons that Mumbai Indians can go on and defend their title in the upcoming season. Rohit Sharma-led franchise covered all aspects of the game by being smart in the 2020 auctions. Chris Lynn and Nathan Coulter-Nile were the new recruits.

During an interaction with Vikrant Gupta for Sports Tak, India batting legend listed out the weaknesses of the MI squad. Gavaskar reckons that the team lacks experienced spin attack as it can put them on the back foot considering the pitches of UAE.

Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav and Anukul Roy are the options for the spin department. But, the former India cricketer feels Mumbai Indians will struggle only in this department.

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav have been picked as Mumbai Indians openers by Sunil Gavaskar. The wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock comes next on the list followed by the likes of Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya.

Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar were picked as the only spinners of MI squad. As far as the seam attack is concerned, Sunil Gavaskar went with Jasprit Bumrah, Nathan Coulter-Nile and only one between Trent Boult and Mitchell McClenaghan.
