Tamim banking on young Barishal team

Fortune Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal may not be fully satisfied with his team but he is banking on his relatively inexperienced squad.

Tamim banking on young Barishal team

Barishal drafted in young players to Tamim’s team in the players’ draft. Apart from the skipper, only Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed have sufficient experience at the international level. Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Saif Hassan, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi and Aminul Islam Biplob have been around the national team for the past two years.

Chattogram-born Tamim admits Barishal did not make a great team but warns of the underrated players who can make marks in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

“No doubt we made mistakes in the draft but we have to understand cricket is a game of uncertainty. My team has players whom we may not be counting on. But they can have a great tournament,” Tamim told the reporters.

“We didn’t expect those 2-3 cricketers to perform well in the President’s Cup but they took the spotlight later. I hope the players who are not in limelight will peform well. They have to give more than the team actually needs.”

Fortune Barishal’s chances will be heavily relied on Tamim, who is looking forward to motive his team through his batting and captaincy.

“Obviously, my performance is very important if I can lead from the front. Leave alone captaincy, if I can score runs as a batsman it will definitely inspire my team,” he said.

“Maybe I will have to play different roles in the tournament. If you have enough resources you can do a lot of planning. But when you have limited Resource you have to play according to that.”

Barishal will lock horns with Gemcon Khulna, a team that includes Shakib Al Hasan and captain Mahmudullah Riyad, in their first match on the 24th November.
