Tamim-Mashrafe-Mustafizur enjoy ranking elevation
21 series had been passed since Bangladesh acquired an away series win before bursting through a 2-1 ascending against West Indies on Saturday in St. Lucia. The outstanding show of batting elevated Tamim’s position in the ranking. Skipping four steps upward, the vibrant opener is now at number 13 spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player rankings carrying his career best points-737.
“I think the patience I showed in the first, second and third match makes me happy as it proved that my hard work paid off,” said Tamim Iqbal.
A total of 287 runs were scored by Tamim in the opening position in the just completed series. He scored 130 not out and 103 in the first and last match of the series, Bangladesh won in both occasions whereas made 54 runs in the second match in which the visiting team suffered a shocking 3 runs defeat.
Shakib Al Hasan remained in the top most position of the ICC ODI all-rounder’s rankings despite having ups and downs in the individual batsmen and bowlers’ ranking. He moved three places forward to be in the 26th spot of the batsmen ranking and lost three places in the bowlers’ ranking.
Middle order batsman Mahmudullah Riyad gained four positions to get to No.38 with career high points of 575. Another mainstream performer Mushfiqur Rahim dropped down a single place to be at 22nd. Mushfiqur scored 30 in the first game and a quick fire 67 ball 68 in the second match.
Skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza led the team from the front with his superb bowling, Mortaza and Mustafizur guided Bangladesh’s bowling to supremacy in the series with captain Mortaza became the highest wicket taker.
Mortaza, therefore, is enjoying an upward rise of eight spots in the ICC ODI bowler’s ranking to be in the 19th place with Matt Henry of New Zealand.
Young Mustafizur also gained two spots, achieved career best 610 points to be in number 17th of the bowler’s ranking.
Last night, Bangladesh clinched the one day international series in the Caribbean through thrashing the home team by 18 runs. The visitors put a massive 301 runs for the loss of 6 wickets after batting first and restricted West Indies to 283 runs.
The home team could have made a clean sweep had they not been defeated thrillingly by 3 runs in the second ODI.
