Jalal Yunus, the BCB's operations committee chairman, is still doubtful whether Tamim Iqbal, the country's best opener, would play in the T20 at all.
Tamim made himself unavailable just before the T20 World Cup last year. Rumor was that head coach Russell Domingo did not want Tamim in the World Cup squad, who was on a long break at the time. Still, there’s uncertainty about Tamim's participation in the T20 format.
The head of the BCB's (Bangladesh Cricket Board) operations committee met the media yesterday. He said so far the board clearly knows nothing about Tamim’s participation in the shortest format of the game. However, he said that the answer to this question will be known soon.
“No (I don't know yet). It will be confirmed very soon whether Tamim will play in the next World Cup or not. That cannot be said now,"
he said.
The T20 World Cup will be held in Australia this year. And the ODI captain of the Bangladesh team has asked for leave from the T20 format till this World Cup. The BCB has also signed ‘yes’ in the leave letter.
However, in the absence of Tamim, none of those who have had the opportunity so far have been able to prove themselves. Munim Shahriar, who played well in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), was also given a chance in the Afghanistan series. However, Munim failed to seize that opportunity.
