Taskin and Farhad named as replacements

Bangladesh had to force two changes in the squad for the Sri Lanka series as skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mohammad Saifuddin have been ruled out due to injuries.

Bangladesh have been hit with a double blow as Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mohammad Saifuddin have been ruled out due to injuries. Tamim Iqbal will lead the side in the absence of Mashrafe, according to reports.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have also named the replacements on Friday. All-rounder Farhad Reza replaces Mashrafe while Taskin Ahmed replaced Saifuddin, who is suffering from back pain.

BCB released a statement

“All-rounder Saifuddin has been ruled out of the Tour of Sri Lanka 2019 with a lower back injury. He will now enter a rehab programme under the supervision of the BCB Medical Team. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed will replace Saif in the squad. All-rounder Farhad Reza meanwhile, has been named as replacement for Masrafe Bin Mortaza who is out for a month with a recurring hamstring injury.”

On the other hand, the skipper was feeling fine before the practice session, but during bowling, he suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

“He pulled his hamstring during training today. We are yet to receive the medical report but at the moment it looks difficult for him to play in the series. We have decided to include Farhad Reza as his replacement,” Minhajul Abedin said.
