Uncertainty looms over DPL again
As the Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh was improving day by day, there had been a full chance to start Dhaka Premier League (DPL) tournament again. However, with the increase in Covid-19 affected people at the moment, there is a lot of uncertainty about this country’s most prestigious domestic tournament.
DPL is called the bread and butter of Bangladesh cricketers. The tournament has been postponed for the past one year due to coronavirus The cricketers also agreed to play in the DPL for a lower fee to break the stalemate. After the Cricket Commitee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) conducted discussions with the clubs, the organizers decided to reduce the remuneration of a section of cricketers and organize the league in T20 format.
But a new outbreak of coronavirus shut down the six-team National Cricket League (NCL). Naturally, the DPL will also have to face uncertainty. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon also said that there is no possibility of organizing DPL if the situation does not improve quickly.
“It is difficult to start the Dhaka Premier League in current situation. I don’t think there should be any way to play in such a situation. Unless we can ensure bio-bubble, there is no possibility to start the tournament what if there’s one or ten team,” he said.
However, if the 12 clubs in the DPL can create bio-bubble for the players at their own expense, then BCB will plan to organize the DPL. “BCB is trying. If the teams can assure us that they can continue the game by creating bio-bubble, we will organize. I think that possibility is still very slim,” he added.
