Varun Chakravaty ruled out of Australia tour, replacement announced

Call-up for Australia tour unexpected: Varun

Team India’s newest leg break googly bowler Varun Chakravarty is carrying a shoulder injury, it is learnt here.

Multiple sources have confirmed that he is having this injury for a while though he played the current IPL matches for the KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) team.

Varun had been included in the T-20I squad for the Australia tour. He has been revoked from the team and the selectors have named T Natarajan as a replacement. Interestingly, Natarajan’s wife recently delivered a baby and a new arrival in the house has provided “luck” to him.

“He is likely to have a labrum tear which may require surgery. He did not go under the knife because of the IPL”, one source put.

It is not clear when his IPL team, which was “managing” him with the injury, have brought it to the notice of the Indian cricket board or the NCA (National Cricket Academy) but now the reports have already been with the Team India physios, it is also understood.

In the recent IPL matches, he took 13 wickets including five against Delhi Capitals last month. His last match was against Royals on November 1. Varun, now pre-quarantined before the Australia tour in the UAE, is being monitored by the physios and will return to India soon, it is also learnt.
