Vettori appointed head coach of Rajshahi Kings
Former New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori has been appointed as chief coach of Rajshahi Kings for the next two editions of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), confirmed by the franchise on Thursday.
Vettori already has some experience as he has been part of the coaching setup Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL, Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League and Middlesex in the T20 Blast.
Royal Challengers Bangalore finishing as runners-up in the 2016 edition of the IPL has been the best result for Vettori as coach of a T20 team. Under Vettori, Middlesex qualified for the quarterfinals of the T20 Blast in 2016 for the first time since their title victory in 2008. Brisbane Heat also made it to the semi-final in the 2016-17 season under Vettori – their best finish since clinching the trophy in 2012-13.
The former New Zealand player retired from International cricket in 2015 after failing to win the World Cup and they ended up as runners up after losing to Australia. He finished with 305 ODI wickets and 362 Test wickets.
Vettori’s new challenge will be a tough one as Rajshahi Kings is yet to win a title and in the last edition, they ended up as the second team from the bottom with only four wins in 12 games.
