Watch: Alex Hales’s 100 run against Chittagong Vikings
Twin centuries from Alex Hales and Rilee Rossouw have sealed a comfortable 72-run victory for Rangpur Riders over Chittagong Vikings in Chattogram.
Hosts Chittagong Vikings opted to bowl first in their first home game. Chris Gayle was sent back by Abu Jayed Rahi for 2 early in the match.
It was then Hales-Rossouw show as the duo added 174 runs for the second-wicket, the third-highest partnership in all BPL.
Hales raced to his third T20 ton in 47 balls, his first in BPL and second in Chattogram. A drop catch at cow corner let the Englishman take a double to reach 100. However, he departed the next ball off Sikandar Raza. Hales slammed 5 sixes and 11 fours in his 48-ball 100-run knock.
Rossouw was not far behind though. He registered his maiden T20 ton in 51 balls. The left-hander remained unbeaten at exactly 100 runs including 8 fours and 6 sixes. Rangpur Riders posted all-time BPL high-score 239/4 on board.
This is only the third instance of two batsmen scoring hundreds in the same team innings. Kevin O’Brien and Hamish Marshall (Gloucestershire vs Middlesex in 2011) and Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers (RCB vs GL in 2016) did it earlier.
Chittagong lost wickets early in the innings despite a short stay of hard-hitting Mohammad Shahzad’s 12-ball 20. Mushfiqur Rahim smacked Shafiul Islam for three sixes in an over during his 22 off 11.
Yasir Ali was the sole warrior as the Vikings slumped to a 72-run loss. The right-handed opener made his second fifty of BPL 2019. He top-scored for Chittagong with 78 off 48 including 6 fours and 3 sixes. Riders skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza grabbed 3 wickets for 34 runs.
With this win, Rangpur have moved to third in the points table with 10 points from nine matches.
