Watch: Chahal saves review by emulating Dhoni Review System
Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known for the knack of taking a review when it mattered the most and this is why most of them call it as Dhoni Review System instead of Decision Review System. MS Dhoni is quite sharp and judgemental when it comes to taking reviews and we have seen more of his brilliance during the games when he had saved many reviews for India.
Though MS Dhoni is currently not in the Indian cricket team’s setup, his presence was felt in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal’s masterclass during the second ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. On the fifth ball of the third over, Shardul Thakur tossed a fuller inswinger and opener Martin Guptill who came half way forward realised not to take a risk as he preferred to defend it but the ball went on to hit his back pad.
But there came a loud appeal from India, especially Shardul Thakur. But the umpire Bruce Oxenford wasn’t really convinced with the appeal as he remained standstill. While there was a DRS review in hand for India, Virat Kohli came up to his teammates to discuss the veracity of the decision as to whether to take a review or not.
However, Yuzvendra Chahal was one among the teammates who seem pretty confident that the ball hit the bat first and then went on to hit the back pad. Chahal’s strong response convinced the Indian captain to not go for the review. After the timer ended, the TV replays on the large screen showed an edge, on hotspot technology, and thanks to Chahal’s mastermind that saved India from wasting a valuable review.
