Watch: Daryl Mitchell’s controversial dismissal in the 2nd T20I
New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell was given put on a controversial manner in the ongoing second T20I against India at Eden Park.
New Zealand are currently hosting a three-match T20I series against India as a part of India’s tour of Nee Zealand. The hosts were off to a great start in the T20I series with a complete dominance in the series opener.
The second T20I is being played at Eden Park. Nee Zealand batted first and managed to add 158 runs in their allocated 20 overs for the loss of three wickets. Nee Zealand top order were completely dominated by Indian bowlers.
But New Zealand no.4 batsman Daryl Mitchell was dismissed on a controversial manner. The incident happened during the sixth over of New Zealand innings and Krunal Pandya was the bowler. It was only the second ball Daryl Mitchell faced.
Krunal bowled a short deliver at Daryl and the batsman had an inside edge before the ball hitting the front pad. Indians appealed for the wicket and the on-field umpire raised his finger. Daryl Mitchell immediately went for DRS.
In replays, hotspot suggested that the ball nicked the bat. However, to everyone’s surprise, there was a flat line in RTS which led to the third umpire upholding the on-field decision to rule the batsman out.
That made everyone into shock. Both the on-field batsmen had some words with the umpires. Even Rohit Sharma was also ready to call back the batsman. But the umpires denied it and declared it a wicket. That made Daryl’s stay at the crease to an end in a controversial fashion.
