Jamaica thrash as St Lucia woes continue
Jamaica Tallawahs’ emphatic six-wicket victory has left St Lucia Stars winless for 14 consecutive matches. Jamaica have won their first game on their home soil, Sabina Park in Kingston in the seventh match of CPL 2018.
St Lucia posted 175 on board after opting to bat first. Opener Andre Fletcher gave a good start scoring 33-ball 43 runs including 5 fours and 2 sixes. Australian David Warner is yet to fire. He made seven runs in this match.
Lendl Simmons and skipper Kieron Pollard made 20s while Darren Sammy took off with 36 from 24 balls. Kavem Hodge’s 8-ball 21 runs cameo gave Stars a fighting total. A lower-order collapse led them to all out. Adam Zampa and Oshane Thomas bagged three wickets each.
Tallawahs openers Glenn Phillips and Johnson Charles were off to a flyer with 81-run stand in eight overs. Phillips, the New Zealander, hit 58 from 40 including 2 fours and 6 sixes. Charles made 32 off 20.
Rovman Powell finished off the innings with a cameo 23-ball unbeaten 43 runs hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. Skipper Andre Russell didn’t fire but it was enough for the hosts to embrace a six-wicket victory in the last over.
St Lucia Stars have been winless for 14 matches since 2016. They have lost 13 games while one match was washed out.
Jamaica’s next encounter is against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Wednesday night (Thursday dawn in Bangladesh).
