Patriots eliminated Tallawahs from CPL 2018
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots eliminated Jamaica Tallawahs from the Caribbean Premier League 2018.
On Wednesday (September 13), St Kitts and Nevis Patriots went through a thrilling 2 wicket win against Jamaica Tallawahs at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
A total team effort from the Patriots’ batsmen led them to overlap Tallawah’s innings powered by Glenn Phillips’s marvelous ton.
Phillips smashed 103 to help Tallawahs post a competitive total of 191 for 5 after being sent into bat first.
Ross Taylor contributed 33.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots were well on target though lost the opener Devon Thomas as early as in the second over. But Anton Devcich’s half-century and two huge blows of sixes from Ben Cutting saw the Patriots go past the target in the penultimate ball.
Earlier Chris Gayle and Rassie van der Dussen partnered for 46 runs in the second wicket before Ish Sodhi appeared with a double blow to flatten them at 62 for 3.
Fabian Allen and Brandon King uplifted the team with a 56-run stand but Sodhi returned to break the stand once again.
Dangerous Evin Lewis was dismissed by Oshane Thomas. As hard hitter Carlos Brathwaite was also taken away by Rovman Powell in the third delivery of the last over, the game proceeded to even closer distance.
But the good work went in vain when Powell lost his nerve and bowled four wides leaving Patriots to score 5 runs off last 2.
Ben Cutting, at the ultimate moment, cut Powell over midwicket to seal the win for Patriots.
