Shakib’s 13th Player of the Series award levels Jayasuriya
Shakib Al Hasan has been awarded Player of the Series for the second time in the recently concluded Bangladesh vs Windies bilateral series. He has now 13 Man of the Series awards, levelling with Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya.
Jayasuriya played over 586 matches to win 13 MOS awards while Shakib has taken just 322 matches (55 Tests, 195 ODIs and 72 T20Is).
The ace all-rounder has his former ICC rankings rival Jacques Kallis of South Africa, current Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him. Kallis and Kohli are tied with 15 awards while Sachin tops the list with 20.
Shakib scored 103 runs at a strike rate of 144.28 and bagged eight wickets at an average of 11.12 in the three T20Is against Windies in Sylhet and Dhaka. He scored a half-century in the first T20I and then bagged his maiden T20I five-for in the second T20I including 42* in the second T20I. He took 3 for 37 in the final match but registered a golden duck to his name.
Shakib was the Player of the Series in the Test series as well. He also captained Bangladesh to 2-0 victory. Earlier than that, he was named best player of the series in Bangladesh’s previous T20I series which was also against Windies but on a winning side in the Caribbean and United States.
