Faf du Plessis has stolen the Qualifer 1 from Sunrisers Hyderabad to take Chennai Super Kings to their seventh Indian Premier League final. The men in yellow won the cliff-hanger by 2 wickets at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Super Kings elected to bowl first on a pitch which was used for women’s Supernovas vs Trailblazers T20 match in the afternoon.
CSK got the start the wanted as Deepak Chahar got Shikhar Dhawan inside-edge a cut shot on to the stumps. Shreevats Goswami was sent by Lungi Ngidi then. Skipper Kane Williamson got a start but went out cheaply by edging down the leg-side off Shardul Thakur.
Williamson scored 24 runs off 15 balls with 4 fours. Shakib Al Hasan looked good but got caught behind down the leg-side off Dwayne Bravo in the same way as his captain. He departed scoring 12 off 10 with 2 fours.
Yusuf Pathan calmed the situation but was slow for his 24 runs. Carlos Brathwaite lit up the death overs with his power. He hammered 4 sixes and 1 four in his 29-ball 43-run knock that gave SRH a competitive total of 139/7.
Sunrisers have had the habit of defending low totals this season. Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent back Shane Watson for a duck in the first over followed by back-to-back wickets from Sidharth Kaul later.
Rashid Khan was introduced and he picked the massive wicket of MS Dhoni and then Bravo in his third over. The pressure was pushed back on Chennai and they stumbled to 62/6.
However, Faf du Plessis was unfazed with his mates falling at the other end. He scored his first fifty of the season at a very vital situation. His 42-ball unbeaten 67 runs including 5 fours and 4 sixes has helped CSK win with five balls remaining.
No.10 Shardul Thakur played a supportive role with his 15* off 5. du Plessis hit Bhuvneshwar for a six down the ground on the first ball of the last over to end the game.
Rashid bowled a splendid spell of 2/11. Shakib had an off day with the ball as well as he bowled 2 overs for 0/20.
Watch that game changing two overs-
Sunrisers Hyderabad 139/7 in 20 overs (Brathwaite 43*, Williamson 24; Bravo 2/25, Jadeja 1/19)
Chennai Super Kings 140/8 in 19.1 overs (du Plessis 67*, Raina 22; Rashid 2/11, Sandeep 2/30)
Chennai Super Kings won by 2 wickets
