Trinbago Knight Riders successfully defend CPL title
Trinbago Knight Riders have successfully defend their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title courtesy of Collin Munro’s thunderstorm which led to a comfortable victory in the end against Guyana Amazon Warriors.
After winning the toss, Trinbago elected to bowl first and made a breakthrough in the first ball of the match. Cameron Deport departed for a golden duck.
However, Luke Ronchi (44) didn’t let Guyana fall after the early blow. But after Khary Pierre got the vital wicket of Ronchi, things started to get complicated for Guyana and they kept losing wickets in the middle overs of the game. Pierre picked up three wickets and restricted Guyana to 147 runs in their 20 overs.
Trinbago skipper DJ Bravo picked up two wickets while Sunil Narine, Fawad Alam and Ali Khan picked up one wicket each.
In reply, the defending champions started off well before rain forced a break. However, the rain didn’t took too long to stop and no overs were lost. Opener Denesh Ramdin played a steady knock, but lost his wicket in the end in the strangest way. He got dismissed by hit wicket for 24 runs off 30 balls.
While on the other hand, Brendon McCullum set the stage for Trinbago with his blistering knock of 39 off just 24 balls before getting dismissed to Chris Green.
But the wicket couldn’t give an edge to Guyana as Collin Munro smacked bowlers all over the park and ended all hopes of Chris Green’s men. Hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes, Munro guided Trinbago all the way to their 2nd consecutive CPL title.
With that, Indian Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who is also the owner of both Kolkata Knight Riders and Trinbago Knight Riders have now won 2 IPL and 2 CPL titles.
Last year when Trinbago won the CPL for the first time, Bangladesh’s Mehedy Hasan Miraz was also a part of the squad. However, he failed to get any opportunity in the starting XI. And in Indian Premier League (IPL), all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was a vital part of Kolkata Knight Riders when they won their titles in 2012 and 2014.
A happy Shah Rukh Khan posted on his social media congratulating the team and his players after his side lifted the CPL for the 2nd time in a row.
