Watch: ‘Virat Kohli and co’ flaunt Test jerseys with names and numbers
Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his team mates were seen flaunting new Test jersey with names and numbers depicted on the back as the Indian team engaged in a photo shoot ahead of their two-match Test series against the West Indies.
The first Test is scheduled to start on Thursday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
Teams playing in the ICC World Test Championship will see their players having names and number on the back of their jerseys.
Virat Kohli was seen posing wearing his new Test jersey numbering 18 while Cheteshwar Pujara has opted for number 25.
India’s vice-captain in the longest format of the game, Ajinkya Rahane, has showed up wearing no. 3. Meanwhile veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had no. 99 on his back, the number he was seen having during County matches.
The ICC World Test Championship contains eight teams fighting for 120 points per series. All the eight Test-playing nations – Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies – are competing in the tournament.
Teams will fight for the title across 71 Test matches in 27 series over the next two years.
Indian Skipper Kohli opined that the Test Championship will make things difficult for the batsmen as the result would come in larger schemes.
“The games are going to be much more competitive and it brings a lot of purpose to the Test matches you play. It’s the right move and at the absolute right time,” Kohli said during the West Indies Players Association awards night on Monday.
