In limited overs cricket, where the graph of success is upwards, the opposite is true in Tests for Bangladesh. Bangladesh team is not able to cope up with this format in any way.

We have the ability to come in the top six in Tests: Mushfiqur

However, Mushfiqur Rahim is giving the message of hope. He believes the Tigers in white jerseys can afford to come in the top six in Test format.

In terms of statistics and field performance, the Bangladesh team lags far behind in Tests than the other two formats. Although 20 years have passed since Bangladesh debuted in Tests in the international arena, they have not been able to find much success except to win a few matches at home.

Bangladesh is also at the bottom half in the newly published rankings. Mominul Haque-led team is also behind the newcomer Afghanistan in the rating point. The Afghans who have played Tests for a total of just two years have 57 rating points, while Bangladesh has 55 overall rating points.

However, whatever the current situation, Mushfiqur, the wicketkeeper-batsman of the Bangladesh team, has been seeing the potential to rise to the top six in this format.

‘Mr Dependable’ of Bangldesh, said: “I truly believe that there is much more to be achieved as a team. Despite having talented players, we have not been able to achieve that in the last 20 years. But at least at home, our performance is going up.”

Mushfiqur added,

“Our concern is to do well outside the country. There are many big challenges ahead. The Test Championship is also a big challenge for us. We have the ability to come in the top six in Tests.”

Mushfiqur said that if the team improves in the rankings, it will be a personal success. “If there’s no coronavirus, then there would be some important series at home. We had Test series against New Zealand or Australia. There is also the West Indies. Every team is big, we have beaten two teams in the past. If we can stay in the top-6, then we can see some players in the top ten in the player rankings.”
