West Indies call up 19-year-old pacer for South Africa series
West Indies have named a 17-member provision squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa at home. The squad will be further cut down to official 13-member squad on Monday, June 7.
Fast bowler Chemar Holder misses out the squad due to injury while 19-year-old fast bowler Jayden Seales has been included in the squad for the first time. Seales has played only one match in first-class cricket. In all, the number of matches for Seales in recognized cricket is only ten.
Although the young pacer from Trinidad and Tobago did not have much experience, he proved his worth in the inter-squad preparation match. In the second innings of the match, Seales took 4 wickets for 40 runs. He took the wickets of star batsmen like Shai Hope and Darren Bravo.
Seales came into the discussion for the first time after last year’s Under-19 World Cup. Where he took ten wickets in six matches. In addition to Seales, the Caribbean will have four other young pacers Keon Harding, Preston McSween, Marquino Mindley and Nial Smith to help the squad for prepaarations.
The two-match Test series between the West Indies and South Africa will start on June 10. The second match will be from June 18. This is the last series in the current ICC World Test Championship.
