Bangladesh to go Sri Lanka on September 23
The series is still about two and a half months away. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC)have confirmed that the three-match Test series between the two countries will start on October 24.
It has not been decided yet when the Bangladesh national cricket team will visit Sri Lanka. The rumor was that the Tigers would leave the country on September 23 or 24. Finally, today (Wednesday) at an informal meeting of the Cricket Operations Committee and High Performance Unit of the BCB, it was confirmed that Bangladesh will leave for Sri Lanka on September 23.
Not only the national team, but also the BCB’s high performance unit (HP unit) will go to Sri Lanka on the same day. That is why a 24-member HP squad will be announced. They have a series with the Sri Lankan HP unit. Before that, the main task of the HP players will be to help in the practice of the national team.
For this reason, BCB will have to bear all the expenses of the HP team for the first two and a half to three weeks. Later, as the HP series kicks off, all their expenses will go under the Sri Lankan board.
The meeting started at 12:30 pm today and ended at 2.30 pm. The informal meeting was attended by BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, two directors Akram Khan and (Chairman of Cricket Operations Committee) Naimur Rahman Durjoy (Chairman of High Performance Unit) and two selectors Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar Sumon.
After a two-hour discussion, Akram Khan, chairman of the BCB’s game development committee, confirmed the schedule to the media on Wednesday. The HP unit and the national team players will return together after the national team series ends.
