CCTV footage of Kusal Mendis’s accident revealed
Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis was arrested by Sri Lankan police after he hit a 64-year-old cyclist near Colombo while driving car. Unfortunately, The cyclist died on spot. He didn’t had any time to admit in the hospital.
The Police media unit confirmed Kusal’s involvement in the accident, therefore police immediately took Mendis into their custody. It is assuming that one of them might were under the influence of alcohol. But police have not revealed whether Kusal or the cyclist was under the influence of alcohol. After he was taken to police custody, he is now put in bail.
Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror uploaded a CCTV footage of the life-taking accident. Mendis is seen driving a car through a narrow road and hitting the cyclist In the video. Both thr damage inflicted on Kusal’s car as well as the cycle was also shown there. Daily Mirror shared the clip of the incident and wrote,
“Cricketer Kusal Mendis was arrested following an accident involving his vehicle that killed a man at Horethuduwa, Panadura early this morning.”
The Wicketkeeper batsman has played 44 Tests, 76 ODIs, and 26 T20Is tand scored 2995 runs, 2164 runs, and 484 runs in them respectively. He has 28 half-centuries in international career.
However, this is not the first time, a Sri Lankan cricketer getting involved in a road crash. It was 2003, former leg spinner Kaushal Lokuarchchi suffered a four years prison sentence due to the accident.
Mendis was ready to play a T20 series against the mighty English. But with no match played between the two, England headed back to home due to the beginning of COVID-19 Pandemic.
