I’m fully prepared now with fitness and skill: Ashraful
Ashraful did not get the opportunity to play in the last edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). But this time, the former Bangladesh captain is ready to show his worth again in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, a T20 event to be organized with local cricketers.
The player draft of BPL 2020 was held in 2019. There no franchise took Ashraful in their team. Since then, he may have been more determined. He started working hard from November 2019. He then lost about 13 kg of weight. Ashraful returned to practice in July this year, despite all the adverse situations for COVID-19. He prepared himself by practicing more and more on his own initiative. Coach Sarwar Imran helped him thoroughly.
In a special event on Facebook live, the 36-year old batsman said: “I started practicing before Eid-ul-Adha hearing that the Premier League might be started. Then President’s Cup happened but I didn’t get the opportunity. This time I’ve got a chance in Minister Rajshahi. I have been trying for the last two or three years to be fully prepared when the game starts. I’ll have to use the opportunity.”
“That is why I have been doing skill and fitness training for the last two and a half months. I thought it would be better to have a coach during practice to be able to point out my mistakes. Sarwar Imran Sir has helped me a lot.”
He added, “After a month and a half of practice, I felt the need of playing matches. First I played a match at Shyamoli ground. Then I played in a stadium in Keraniganj. That’s what it felt like, a perfect field. I played 2 three-day matches and 10-12 T20 practice matches. I’m fully prepared now with fitness and skill.”
About joining Rajshahi in Bangabandhu T20 Cup, he said, “Maybe we’ll go under COVID-19 test on November 20 and we’ll be in the team hotel on November 21. Our match will start from 24th.”
