Patel is in New Zealand's Test squad as well.[/caption]
The 30-year-old Patel was already named in New Zealand's Test squad for the forthcoming series against the Pakistanis, and now he finds himself a place in the T20I squad as well.
Patel's call-up is mostly thanks to some standout performances with the ball in New Zealand A's series with Pakistan A, conceding just a run-a-ball across three matches.
Kiwis coach Gary Stead seems to be quite excited about the inclusion of Patel, as the in-form left-arm spinner could be a strong plus point for the visitors going into the first match on October 31.
"It's no secret that spin is crucial in this part of the world and with the wickets on the slower side, we've taken the option of a second spinner to bring our squad up to 14-players," said Stead.
"We're fortunate that Ajaz has been playing over here for the past month and playing well; so he'll be ready to go should he get his chance in the series."
Patel impressed for New Zealand A in their recent 2-1 T20 series win over Pakistan A in the United Arab Emirates, taking 4-57 off 8.5 overs across the three matches: an impressive average of 14.25 and economy rate of 6.45.
New Zealand will play three T20Is, three ODIs and three Tests against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Black Caps Twenty20 squad to face Pakistan: Kane Williamson (captain), Glenn Phillips, Colin Munro, Ross Taylor, Mark Chapman, Corey Anderson, Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Seifert, Tim Southee, Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Ajaz Patel, Seth Rance.
