Shawon on the way towards his dream through day laboring

The dream of brightening the country’s name in the world is a dream of every person. But the opportunity doesn’t come to everyone because of many adversity. And if the adversity is physical obstacle, then most of them just give up. But a boy named Shawon Sikder from Pirojpur is continuously fighting on behalf of Bangladesh in the world forgetting his obstacle.


As a member of BCB’s physical disabled team he fought for the country many times. Particapated in the 2018 Physical Disablity Tri-series T20 Cricket trournament held in England. Also played for Bangladesh against India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Shawon is the elder son of day laborer Md. Babul Sikder and housewife Nasima Begum. They lived in a small room of government’s Kumirmara Shelter Project esbablished in Sariktala-Dumuritala union of Pirojpur Sadar Upazilla. His father described the journey to reach his dream. Said, “Being physically challanged by born, I never thought of making him a cricketer. To get some relief from the family financial crisis, I sent him in Chittagong with a job. But after some days he left the job and went to Dhaka. Later he came to know that he got a chance as a member on the physically challenged cricket team.”

Cricket is known as an expensive game around the world. Therefore, this journey of Shawon has become impatient with the financial difficulties. Babul said, “Now he is in Pirojpur. There is no system for practicing cricket here. Besides, we do not have the ability to buy the equipments that is needed to practice cricket. “

Shawon’s mother Nasima Begum said:

“We live in a small house of the shelter project of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. When Shawon goes out of the country to play cricket, that is so much enjoyable to us. It feels more charming when he gets rewards from this. We become so much proud of him but the reality is we can’t prevent our hunger from these pride. That’s why Shawon’s dream is moving forward in darkness day by day. “

But Shawon refused to leave this game even after facing thousands of problems. He ensured to continue this fight.

“I do not have the necessary equipments to play cricket. For what, I can’t practice properly. I come home and work as a day labor to earn some money so that I can buy the equipments.I am also trying to earn some money by driving Auto-Rickshaw and Easybike.”

In this matter the general Secretary of Pirojpur District Sports Association Md. Golam Maula Nakbek told bdcrictime that Shawon Sikdar went to play in Physical Disablity Tri-series T-20 tournament as a member of BCB’s physical disabled team, which is created with the support of International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) on July 6.

Assuring to help Shawon in playing, he said, “District Sports Association will take proper actions for Shaon’s cricket practice and will be given full support to him.”
