There are only 2 openers in the Bangladesh
squad announced for the Asia Cup. Anamul Haque Bijoy
- who hasn't done much when given a chance in the last two series. The other is Parvez Hossain Emon, who has just played only one match so far in international cricket in the recently-concluded Zimbabwe series.
Neither Bijoy nor Emon is guaranteed to be in the XI. As a result, the team management is thinking of playing the team's middle-order and lower middle-order batsmen in the opening. However, famous cricket coach Nazmul Abedin Fahim urged that there should be much confidence in Bijoy and Emon.
He said, “There are two recognized openers in the team. They should be given a chance so that they can do well. If we talk about Mushfiqur as an opener, then they will not feel comfortable. If someone is sick or can't do well, then it can be a matter of giving someone else a chance to open.”
is not in the team due to injury, so the concern of the Bangladesh team has increased. A section of the team management wants to test Mushfiqur Rahim
in the opening. Although Mushfiqur has experience in opening, Fahim said that Bijoy and Emon should be given a chance first.
But what if they fail, or in the absence of one of them have to step up in the middle order. In that case, Fahim's choice is Mushfiqur. He added, “When Mushfiqur started playing in BKSP, he was an opener. Later he was moved to middle-order. Opening is always challenging. I don't know how much he can prepare himself as an opener. But he can use past experience.”
