Five contenders for replacing Shreyas Iyer as Delhi Capitals’ captain
During the first ODI against England, Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer got a blow on his left shoulder in an attempt for saving a shot from England opener Jonny Bairstow. Iyer was seen in a lot of pain and he walked off immediately. Most probably Suryakumar Yadav will make his debut in second ODI, replacing Shreyas Iyer.
According to the first scan reports, the batsman has suffered a partial dislocation in the left shoulder and it requires minimum two-three weeks to heal if it is a minor one. The batsman might need to undergo surgery if it is a complicated one and that will put him outside the game for nearly two months.
In such circumstances, Delhi Capitals will be coming to the IPL season without their captain. Delhi Capitals will be in a situation to name a new captain for replacing Shreyas Iyer. Let’s have a look at the possible replacements with the captaincy role for Delhi Capitals.
1. Shikhar Dhawan
The left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has become a senior member of the squad. In the last season too he had done exceptionally well for the franchise. Of course, he has some experience in the role of a captain too in the league. Shikhar Dhawan captained Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 before replaced by Darren Sammy.
However, there is another side too as the southpaw batsman showed his lack of interest in captaincy in recent years. Even when he joined Delhi Capitals, he was offered the captaincy role and he turned down it. Dhawan said that he wanted to focus more on his batting. Anyhow, with the tough times for the franchise, he might step up and lead the side in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
