Indian cricketer Nishant Singh Shekhawat arrested for match fixing
Indian cricketer Nishant Singh Shekhawat has been arrested by the central crime police in Bangalore on charges of supposed match-fixing in the 2018 Karnataka Premier League (KPL).
Shakib Al Hasan was banned for upholding match fixing issues just a few days ago. But it looks like the chapter hasn’t closed yet. This time, Indian cricketer Nishant Singh Shekhawat was arrested for match-fixing. Karnataka Police have arrested him for match fixing and gambling case in the Karnataka Premier League.
The Shivamogga Lion’s batsman, Nishant had been the second cricketer arrested for fixing in the Karnataka Premier League. Earlier last month, M Vishwanathan was arrested for the same case. The allegations against Nishant that he introduced Chandigarh based bookie Manoj Kumar alias Monty to Bengaluru Blasters team bowling coach Vinu Prasad. Vinu Prasad was arrested last month along with Vishwanathan.
“Cricket player Nishant Singh Shekhawat has been arrested. He was in contact with the bookies and had reached Bangalore Blasters team bowling Coach Vinu Prasad to fix players,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil told ANI on Tuesday.
It is believed that Nishant influenced Vishwanathan for fixing the match. Vishwanathan was asked to score less than 10 runs in 20 balls against the Hubbali Tigers. He scored 9 runs in 17 balls in that match. He was given Rs 5 lakh for this. To show that his job was finished, he additionally purportedly conveyed sign of his consent to the bookies with a change of bat and the moving up of his sleeves.
Police have arrested several others besides Nishant and Vishwanathan in the ongoing investigation for fixing issues.
