Ishant Sharma suffers ankle injury, in doubt for New Zealand tour
India’s premier pacer Ishant Sharma hurt his ankle quite severely during bowling in a Ranji Trophy game on Monday putting him in doubt for the forthcoming New Zealand Test tour.
“Ishant has twisted his ankle and has swelled. It’s looking pretty bad at the moment. We will not risk him again in this match. Let’s hope it’s not a fracture,”
a senior team management of Delhi which Sharma represented in Ranji Trophy said as quoted by the Press Trust of India.
“If it’s pure swelling, he will be fit in some days. He needs to go to NCA obviously and get his rehab done along with RTP (Return To Play) certificate. We are awaiting his MRI report which we expect by this evening,” he said further.
It was in the fifth over of Vidarbha’s second innings when the 31-year old fall into disarray. He needed immediate medical help as the pacer looked in great pain. He had captured three wickets for 45 runs in Vidarbha’s first innings.
Ishant Sharma played 96 Test matches for India. Team India management hopes that MRI will reveal no fracture.
as that could put the 31-year-old out of action for a considerable amount of time. Ishant was India’s second-highest wicket-taker in 2019, scalping 25 wickets at an average of 15.56 and a strike rate of 32.5 balls.
India’s Test series in New Zealand will get under way on February 21. Before that they will play a three-day warm-up match against New Zealand XI, starting from February 14.
