Kulasekara to coach in LPL

Former no.1 ODI pacer Nuwan Kulasekara has been appointed as the bowling coach of Kandy Tuskers for Lankan Premier League 2020.

Kulasekara last played international cricket for Sri Lanka in 2017 before deciding to call off in mid 2019. The veteran has 313 scalps across formats for his country.

The 38-year-old’s appointment was made in the same day as former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan’s inclusion to the squad. Pathan is the fifth overseas signing for Kandy Tuskers.

The LPL will be Kulasekara’s first assignment as coach in competitive cricket.

The Kandy Tuskers franchise belongs to Bollywood star Salman Khan’s family. Salman’s brother Sohail Khan and father Selim Khan were actively involved in making the squad. Selim has confirmed his brother Salman will be watching the LPL live from the ground. This is will be the first involvement in cricket for Salman.

Tuskers squad includes local and internaional stars. Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Dilruwan Perera will be the key local players. A lot will depend on Caribbean T20 ‘Bradman’ Chris Gayle, who just completed 1000 sixes in T20 cricket during the ongoing IPL.

World Cup winner Liam Plunkett, Wahab Riaz and Naveen-ul-Haq are other overseas players in Tuskers.

The tournament will kick off on November 21 and the final will be held on December 13.
