Prime Bank win big, all-round Ziaur stars in Sheikh Jamal’s thrilling win

The fight for the top spot has been growing interesting as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Prime Bank Cricket Club both won their respective matches in the first batch of fixtures of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) on Friday (June 11). Shinepukur Cricket Club also won in the clash of bottom half of the table teams against Old DOHS Sports Club.

With a whipping 101-run win over Rupganj, Prime Bank maintained their winning run in the DPL. Batting first, captain Anamul Haque and opener Rony Talukder’s half-century gave Prime Bank a big total of 169 runs in this year’s low-scoring tournament. Rony scored 53 runs off 31 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes while Anamul remained unbeaten on 69 runs off 49 balls. The wicket-keeper batsman struck 3 fours and 6 sixes. Pacer Muktar Ali took 3 wickets for Rupganj.

After that, Nahidul Islam (3-15), Nayeem Hasan (2-13) and Rubel Hossain (2-17) ensured a thrashing victory as Rupganj showed miserable batting. They were never in a chase, only three batsmen of their team reached the double digit score. Jaker Ali topped the batting chart with 16 runs.

With the win, Prime Bank went top at the point table.

Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club vs Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, BKSP-4, Savar

In a clash between two favourites, Sheikh Jamal has the last smile as they won by runs against Prime Doleshwar. Chasing 167, Sheikh Jamal lost 5 wickets inside 10 overs and it was tough for them to win the match from that opposition. But all-rounder Ziaur Rahman and Tanbir Hayder put on an 83-run match-winning partnership which gave Sheikh Jamal a thrilling 3-wicket win. Ziaur scored 53 runs off 33 balls with 1 four and 5 sixes after taking 2 wickets with the ball. Tanbir was unbeaten on 45 runs off 34 balls. Kamrul Islam took 4 wickets and Enamul Haque jnr picked up 2 wickets for Prime Doleshwar.

Earlier, in form opener Imran Uzzaman again headlined as the opener scored 65 runs off 46 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes batting first. Another inform batsman, Shamim Hossain played a destructive cameo not out innings of 49 runs off just 19 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes at the end which gave Doleshwar a good fighting total of 151 runs in 20 overs. Elias Sunny picked up 2 wickets for Sheikh Jamal.

Old DOHS Sports Club vs Shinepukur Cricket Club, BKSP-3, Savar

Under-19 World Cup winner Tanzid Hasan Tamim smashed an unbeaten 79-run innings off 59 balls which gave Shinepukur a comfortable win by 7 wickets against Old DOHS chasing only 120 runs. The left-handed batsman struck 7 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.

Earlier, Old DOHS continued their poor batting form as Mohammad Rakib single-handedly drove the innings to a moderate total of 119 runs with unbeaten an unbeaten 57 runs off 57 balls. Other than him, in form Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 21 runs. Sumon Khan and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury took 2 wickets each for Shinepukur.
