The first match of the series is scheduled to take place on January 14.

A Press Trust of India images showed team physio Nitin Patel taking care of Sharma’s thumb after being hit. The image captioned, “Indian player Rohit Sharma being attended by physio after being hit on his right thumb during a training session ahead of the first one day international cricket match against Australia at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.”

However this is not the first time Rohit Sharma was injured during practice sessions. He had twisted his ankle before his Test debut that caused him to miss the match.

Sharma has been running in rich vein of form. In previous year, he eclipsed Virat Kohli to become the highest run-getter in ODIs scoring 1490 runs with an average of 57.03.

Meanwhile in T20Is, Rohit Sharma amassed 2633 runs.
