Sri Lanka team for Pakistan tour to be picked on November 14

Ashantha de Mel, the chief selector is planning to pick the 16-member Test squad for the Pakistan tour next month on November 14 and this time the interim coach Rumesh Ratnayake is likely to be invited for the discussion.

Speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo on Sunday morning, he said, “my two colleagues-Chanda Mendis and Vinothan John-are unlikely to be present at the meeting. Vinothan is already in Bangladesh with the Under-19 team and Mendis will be with the Emerging Team in Bangladesh”.

“However, I have already discussed about the composition of the team with the fellow selectors. Will now carry forward the discussions with the captain and coach”.

Dimuth Karunratne, who opted to be out of last Pakistan tour (ODI series) is set to be recalled as the Test captain.

The interim coach Ratnayake, who is still in Australia after the three T-20Is is likely to arrive in Sri Lanka on November 12.

The coach consultant Jerome Jayaratne is likely return on Monday. It is not known whether he would join the team in Pakistan. De Mel may be the manager and tour selector in Pakistan.

The two Tests are scheduled to be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi. The team will leave (via Dubai-Islamabad) on December 8.
