Watch: Faf du Plessis puts superman effort with one-handed catch

Being demoralized in the field at the Wanderers against England, South Africa are slumped under quite an improbable target to chase on in the fourth innings.

The tourists extended the lead to 465 runs after a number of half-centuries scored by English batsmen in the second innings. At stumps of day three, England lost all their wickets scoring 400 runs after they decided not to enforce a follow-on.

During a tough day at office for the home team, skipper Faf du Plessis exhibited an inspiring piece of fielding to lift the team’s spirit.

du Plessis assisted in the dismissal of English skipper Joe Root with a stunning one-handed diving catch. Root chased down a full and wide delivery from Beuran Hendricks, the ball edged passed the past and flew towards Faf only to be rested in the fielder’s hand.

With that wicket, Hendricks completed his maiden Test fifer.

Former South Africa wicket-keeper Mark Boucher stated, “He is under pressure from a weight of runs as well, from captaincy, all that stuff.”

“The players back him in the dressing room. It’s nice to see him take that catch towards the end of the day. Hopefully it will lift his spirits. He will go out there and fight. He understands that he is the leader and he wants to do well and lead from the front.

“Hopefully there is something big around the corner for Faf. The whole scene is set for him to come in under pressure and score big runs and hopefully get us close to winning a Test match,” Boucher said.
