Shanaka named as Sri Lankan T20I captain for West Indies tour

Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 20-member squad for the ODI series and T20I series against West Indies and Dasun Shanaka named as the T20I captain.

Sri Lanka are gearing up for the upcoming tour against West Indies. There Sri Lanka will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. The tour was in doubt due to the sudden COVID-19 positive cases in the Sri Lankan camp. Anyhow, now it is confirmed that the tour will go on as planned.

Ahead of the tour, Sri Lanka Cricket a 20-member probable squad for the ODI and T20I series, which will be followed by the Test series. The squad for the Test series will be notified later according to the board. Dimuth Karunaratne is back with the Sri Lankan squad after missing out on the Test series against England.

The all-rounder Dasun Shanaka is named as the T20I captain for the series, replacing Lasith Malinga. Dasun Shanaka captained Sri Lanka back in 2019, during the absence of Lasith Malinga. The new appointment of Shanaka is expected to be a permanent one.

The new faces Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, Ashen Bandara, and Dilshan Madushanka are included in the limited-overs squad. Sri Lanka will be missing some key players in the likes of Kusal Mendis, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, and Isuru Udana.

The T20I series will start on March 3rd and the ODI series will start on 10th March. The T20I series and ODI series will be played in Coolidge Cricket Ground and Sir Vivian Richards Stadium respectively. The 20-member squad will be leaving for Antigua on Tuesday night.
