Sujon not surprised at senior cricketers’ domination in DPL
Abahani Limited coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon has said that he’s not surprised seeing senior players dominating the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). But he also expects that young cricketers will also step up and win the match for their respective team.
“It is normal that senior cricketers will win matches for their team in DPL. They are very experienced. However, our expectations of the youth are high. I will not just talk about Abahani, I’m talking about every young cricketers of all teams. Hopefully, as the tournament progresses, we will be able to see their good performance and with their performances, the tournament will be more exciting,” the former captain of Bangladesh national team said.
Among the senior cricketers, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim performed in the first round. Mahmudullah Riyad also shone in the next round. Besides, others who are bringing win for their respective teams, almost all of them are tested performers. Abahani won the last match with the performance of national team star Mohammad Saifuddin.
However, Sujon was not fully satisfied with Abahani’s performance. “The first two matches were tough enough for us. The first match was a little challenging because of DLS method. However, I am disappointed with the second match. We could not make a big run even on a good wicket. No one from the top order could make a big run. I would say it’s a failure. It is very difficult to score runs if you lose a quick wicket in T20. The boys are getting set on the wicket but playing short innings, it’s worrying. But they have the ability to play big innings. I believe they will turn around in the next match.
“The situation has to be handled. They have to rotate the strike. They have to hit the right ball. We are a better team than the way we played. Most of the batsmen of the national team are in our batting line-up,” Sujon said.
