Watch: Tamim Iqbal’s 141* run against Dhaka Dynamites

Tamim Iqbal saved his best for the finals. Having scored 326 runs at 27.16 in 13 matches before the grand final, the veteran slammed 141* off 61 against Dhaka Dynamites at Mirpur.

Tamim put on a great show in the finals.

Tamim scored 70.85% of the total runs for Comilla Victorians which is the seventh-highest percentage of total runs scored by a batsman in a T20 innings.

Comilla were sent in to bat first at the toss by Dhaka. Comilla lost Evin Lewis early in the innings. Anamul Haque scored a steady 30-ball 24 in a 89-run partership with Tamim. Meanwhile, Shamsur Rahman was run out on his first ball.

The fourth-wicket stand between Tamim and skipper Imrul Kayes produced 100 runs in 46 balls as Victorians romped to 199/3 in 20 overs to set Dhaka a target of 200 runs to win.

Tamim pulls on his way to hundred.

Tamim swiveled Andre Russell for a four to reach his 50-ball century, his third in T20 cricket. No other Bangladesh has even two hundreds. His 141* included 10 fours and 11 maximums. He surpassed his previous best score 130, which he set in 2013 Victory Day tournament.

Rajshahi Kings’ Laurie Evans (104*), Rangpur Riders’ Alex Hales (100) and Rilee Rossouw (100*), Comilla’s Evin Lewis (109*) and AB de Villiers (100*) of Rangpur scored hundreds earlier in this BPL. Tamim went on to be the first Bangladeshi player to hit a ton in BPL 2019.

Overall, this is the fourth century by a Bangladeshi batsman in BPL. Shahriar Nafees was the first with 102* for Khulna Royal Bengals and then Mohammad Ashraful scored 103* for Dhaka Gladiators in 2013. Sabbir Rahman hammered 122 on a losing side for Rajshahi Kings in 2016.
